Craft Classes & Workshops

Over the years, NCNW has offered traditional craft classes for the membership and the community in general to promote cultural awareness and preserve cultural identity. Culturally specific classes keep the community members involved, and allow for a sense of cultural pride.

We’ve had various instructors who have all taught  participants how to create and bead their such items as barrettes, eye glass cases, purses, pouches, albums, moccasins and jackets for example.

From time to time the Ontario Arts Council has funded some of these programs.

Strong Woman-Whole Woman Classes

These classes are designed for those women 16 yrs. and older who wish to increase their physical, mental, spiritual and intellectual well being.  Practice includes a Four Direction Journey, created and founded by the Instructor.  There is a focus on some ‘self defense’ moves through a combination of martial arts, meditative and yogic philosophies and technique.  There is ongoing enrolment with no cost to the participant and no criteria for attendance.  Show up in clothes that you can move in though and if you have a mat you want to bring it too.  We provide water, herbal tea etc.  A nice way to debrief from work or school before heading home for the evening.  All classes at 1088 Garrison Road location.  Please rsvp if you can but drop in’s are welcome. Please check back soon for upcoming dates and times.

Various Native Crafts & Arts

From time to time the chapter offers classes or short courses in various authentic Native craft making delivered usually by an experienced community member or professional Artist.
